Highlighting its commitment to the cause of ‘Let
India Make India’, Catapooolt, India’s premier crowdfunding destination, hosted
its live crowdfunding event called CrowdPitch on November 27, at DLF Cyber Hub,
Gurgaon. The event saw 15 tech start-ups pitching their promising business
ideas to an audience of more than 200 people in order to attract patronship,
funding and market feedback. Besides
getting an opportunity to pitch at the event, these startups will also have two
months on Catapooolt to raise their complete funding requirement.
Catapooolt’s
latest event picked up from where the last event left off. Its CrowdPitch at
Kolkata last month saw more than 100 people, including 15 leading investors,
coming together on a two-hour cruise and raising almost INR 50K for ideas
pitched. Chkra, Diky, Bolsnap, Awakey, Parkwheels, Peebuddy, E-cracker,
Makermandy, Istandout, Ibuycell, Payper, Butterfly App, Strollup, My
Autobiography and Gizmobaba were amongst the startups participating for the
Gurgaon CrowdPitch. (Please see attached
annexure for briefs on these start-ups)
Announcing
the event, Satish Kataria, Managing
Director, Catapooolt, said, “India,
despite being considered the global start-up hub, has only about 300-odd angel
investors today. Crowdfunding, on the other hand, has been proven successful
around the globe. With these events, we are offering large-scale engagement
opportunities for communities to come forward, interact and be a part of the
vibrant startup ecosystem. The overwhelming response to our events so far is
indicative of the rapid acceptance that the crowdfunding approach has been
gathering in the Indian entrepreneurial ecosystem, and will pave the way for
the next level of evolution for the industry.”
At its
conclusion – the event witnessed more than INR 75,000 being contributed
on-the-spot by the participating audiences across various pitching start-ups.
While the contribution is still being done and is open till Thursday, December
3 – before the final funded amounts can be known – so far, two start-ups –
PeeBuddy and Stroll Up seem to be winning the market acceptance.
As per
Deep Bajaj – the founder of PeeBuddy,
"Thank you Catapooolt for creating this platform, unconventional
Businesses like ours dont fall in interest bracket of VCs who are busy
chasing 'flavor of the month' segments like IT, Marketplaces, Hyper
local delivery start-ups etc. However, validation from End customers at
platform like Catapooolt helps entrepreneurs like us - who are in different
social inventions- a great deal in keeping the hope and faith alive. Thank you
Catapooolt for creating this event, hope this encourages more organisations to
launch similar events which can help innovations like PeeBuddy." PeeBuddy
is an interesting innovation which empowers women to relieve themselves, even
while standing, and thus freeing herself from the local hygiene and cleaniness
issues.
Catapooolt
CrowdPitch is powered by premier IT industry body NASSCOM, DLF Cyber Hub and
online payment company PayUMoney. Project ideas that garnered funding through
Catapooolt include innovation, technology, consumer, entertainment, validating
a new start-up’s offering, developing and pre-selling a product, designing a
social innovation or simply anything that can change the world for the better.
