Google unveils its new logo via Google doodle, 7 changes made to logo since 1998

When millions of people will open their eyes to Google something they will see the logo of the company changing once again which has undergone 7 changes since 1998. As per the company the new logo includes the Google dots and 'G' icon which was small alphabet 'g' till now to match  with the logo. 

The introduction to new logo starts with a click on  simple doodle on Google's home page. A hand comes out to wipe out the old logo and draw new logo one alphabet at a time. After the word Google is written the color of the icon changes to match the tone of existing logo and then it converts to the Google connecting dots and the 'G' icon which is again 4 color icon made up from the 4 connecting dots. The company said that the new design depicts how users use Google across different platforms ranging from desktop PCs to mobile phones.

The official blogpost says, "It doesn’t simply tell you that you’re using Google, but also shows you how Google is working for you. For example, new elements like a colorful Google mic help you identify and interact with Google whether you’re talking, tapping or typing. Meanwhile, we’re bidding adieu to the little blue “g” icon and replacing it with a four-color “G” that matches the logo"

30 August 1998

September 1998

  • Google moves to google.com and shares its beta release with the world.


May 1999

  • Still playful, the logo gets a more sophisticated look based on the Catull typeface.



May 2010

  • The logo brightens up and sports a reduced drop shadow.

September 2013

  • The logo goes flat with some typographical tweaks.


September 2015

  • The logo becomes part of a new family that includes the Google dots and 'G' icon.
