Google as usual is offering you again the least expected from it, the latest project named Sunroof is aimed at providing users with useful information about installing solar panels. As through Google Maps, Google already has satellite data for navigation, sunlight for every property on the world , they are arguably the best candidates today to suggest you about the ROI of your investment on your solar panel.
When a user enters address of the property to get the details, Google looks up for the property in its Maps and combine information with other databases to create personalized roof analysis. The project also takes into how much sunlight hits your roof in a year. It takes into account several factors such as its own database of aerial imagery and maps, 3D modelling of roof, Shadows cast by nearby trees and other structures, All possible sun positions over the course of the year, historical cloud and temperature patterns that may affect solar energy production.
Now when you have all these details, just enter your electricity usage and it will recommend you the size of the panel required to generate 100% of your electricity use. The project also tells about the cost of the installation, taking a loan or leasing the installation to help you choose what suits you best. Google admitted that the recommendations are going to be sponsored and might get a kick back. The project will only be available in three locations in United States viz. Boston, San Francisco and Fresno. If the project turns out to be successful then it can be rolled out in other parts of the country as well to the outside world.
