General Elections of 2014 gave ruling party BJP unprecedented success, there are many reasons attributed to this overwhelming success for me the one factor which created the buzz was Good Governance, throughout election campaigns PM candidate asked country's people to vote for development and good governance and the public showed that they want a corruption free government capable of providing good governance. Now its turn for PM and his government to stand on his promises.
Its true that in today's tech savvy world no governance is good governance without e-governance. So our government has taken few steps to make a forward leap here one of them is #DigitalIndia campaign. Digital India official facebook page describes campaign as "Digital India is a programme to transform India into a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy."
How e-Governance through technology can accelerate vision of #DigitalIndia?
e-Governance is generally defined as "Application of Information and Communication technology for delivering government services, exchange of information , communication transactions, integration of various standalone systems and services from government to its customers, business, other governments and also entire other back office systems.
In India e-Governance is taken care by National e-Governance plan (NeGP) initiative, this is the comprehensive initiative which engage government with its stakeholders but is it sufficient or does it solves the purpose of a diverse country like India in current scenario? No certainly not, most primary need for good governance after electricity is availability of Internet, Computing devices and skilled forces.
It is well known that our government has approached tech giants Microsoft, Facebook , Intel to support government in this journey based on their tech expertise and experience. e-Governance not only makes the process easier and transparent but also it can be made accessible to remotest areas of country lets have a look what we expect from our government to accelerate growth of e-Governance in country through technology.
We know we are still lagging in terms of education when it comes to remote areas or even in most advanced cities children are deprived from their basic right due to lack of facilities, but now its time to fill the gap and make technology to our students of all sections accessible. We don't advocate for giving tablets and laptops as freebies but to make them affordable or may be subsidised for sometime. Make education process online and teach skills which proves to be worthy. Make counters for public services atleast one per 3000 population which should be connected to high quality , high speed internet service and should be one stop solution for general public documents and clearances like birth certificates, income certificates etc.
Hi Speed internet access , high quality data servers, 24/7 availability of resources and transparency holds the key for e-governance apart from strong will and execution plan. We wish our government works towards achieving these with strong will and succeed in making India a truly e-Governed country with maximum governance and minimum government.
