Oplus Xonphone5 is the second device from Taiwanese company Oplus after Xonpad7 the 7 inch tablet. Oplus Xonphone 5 is priced smartly for Rs 7833 with high end specification to compete with likes of Moto E, Redmi 1S, Asus Zenphone 4. We have review unit with us let's find out does Xonphone 5 satisfy the needs of current market to taste success in mid range smartphones segment. We have grey color unit with us but there is a white and gold version also available in the market.
Look and feel:
Xonphone 5 has a usual candybar design with sleek body and metallic side frame which makes device looks premium and stronger. On the front side you see 5 inch capacitive HD IPS OGS display with as usual earpiece located on top centre. A 2 MP fixed focus front camera is placed left to the earpiece and proximity sensor is on the right side. Below the 5 inch screen there are three capacitive buttons on the black strip viz. settings, home and back.
Mic is placed on the right of bottom edge close to which there is an opening to open the back cover. Side edges are metallic and makes device look premium, right edge holds power button while left edge contains volume rockers for volume up and down.
Back cover of the device is made up of plastic with a dotted pattern and is removable under which there is a 2000 mAh strong battery which is again removable and slots to hold one micro sim card, one regular sim card and external micro SD card. On back side 8 MP camera is placed which peeks outside from the plastic cover under which there is led Flash light fitted into a metallic strip which has company's name written in raised letters. On the bottom of the back side Company's logo and device name is printed along with the speaker on left bottom of the back cover.

Oplus Xonphone 5 runs on Android Kitkat 4.4 taking power from 1.3 GHz quad core mediatek MTK6582 Cortex A7 processor supported by 1 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage which is expandable up to 32 GB. Device supports dual sim one Micro sim card and other one as regular sim card. A battery of 2000 mAh provides juice to the device. On connectivity front we have USB , bluetooth, WiFi, 2G and 3G. Device supports 1080p full HD video playback and recording.
Xonphone 5 sports a 5 inch 1280x720 HD IPS OGS screen with Multi touch. We found screen to be quite reflective and its difficult to view it in direct sunlight. On camera front Xonphone 5 is equipped with a 2 MP front camera and 8 MP rear camera supported by single led flash light for low light conditions. Camera app has usual options of panorama, live photo, HDR etc.
On software front Xonphone 5 runs on Android Kitkat 4.4 with changes to default icon pack which is not that pleasant , I wish Oplus should have kept original icons. There is no application from manufacturer as such (like Micromax M live etc) but it comes preloaded with few applications such as Snapdeal app which is well understandable as Snapdeal is the online retail partner of the company.Bloat wares are very limited to few apps and games.
Camera:
Device like Xonphone 5 makes it evident that greater megapixel count doesn't lead to a better performing camera. We found images taken from device lacked details despite of having good lighting conditions. Overall we found picture quality to be just average. However , front 2 MP camera is good enough for selfies and you can upload pics on your social accounts without any hesitation.
Performance:
We didn't observed any issues at all in performing day to day activities on the device it gave us a clear lag free experience. We also didn't observed any noticeable lag while opening applications or playing games such as Temple Run, Frontline commando. Scrolling between the apps is also smooth and uninterrupted. We got a score of 18394 on Antutu benchmark which is better than many devices in this price segment.
The phone played all the videos we tested with out any issues , however highly encoded 1080p videos had frames skipped. On games front for normal games there is no hindrance but for high end graphic games as Asphault 8 or NFC one can notice lags while playing.

Speakers of the phone are not too loud and quality of the earphones that comes with the device also average. Call quality of the device is excellent and we didnt experienced any noise while making conversations thru the device.
On battery front device lasted for good 7 hours , 37 minutes during our usage before we had to plug in the device to charge.
Verdict:
Xonphone 5 packs a power performance but lacks in camera quality. Still it has most of things to beat its competitors, few of them include metallic side frame with bezels on both sides, sleek design, 16 GB internal memory, and one of the deciding factor servicing of the device. Company offers pickup and drop service in case you encounter any issue with your device.
Finally Xonphone 5 at a discounted price of 7833 is a value for money phone. If you are looking for an all rounder device instead of concentrating on one or two features than Xonphone5 is a perfect fit for you in this price range.
