All you need to know about Evan Blass aka @evleaks retirement.

3rd August, Sunday was not a day for grand mobile launch or a big tech conference, it was a quite day for tech enthusiasts until famous leak artist Evan Blass aka @evleaks announced his retirement.

Who is Evan Blass or @evleaks?

If you follow tech gadgets than you might be aware of evleaks twitter handle, the infamous account which gave us insights of many products before launch, Or if you are longtime follower of Engadget or PocketNow you may even be  familiar with his actual name Evan Blass as prior to working full time as a leak artist Evan Blass had worked with these big tech brands as Senior Editor and Managing Editor respectively. After being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis Evan quit full time job and started working full time on Twitter as a leak artist. If leave few instances all the leaks provided by Evan were detailed and accurate most of which were of HTC products.
It was Evan who leaked Nokia's project Normandy which turned out to be Nokia X the first android phone from the company. @evleaks was just a twitter handle with no face to it until last year Evan disclosed his identity in an interview to AndroidPolice. @evleaks has 187000+ followers on twitter which includes high profile tech enthusiasts and journalists such as MKBHD, Peter Rojas, Kara Swisher and many more. Evan credits his success to his sources, friends in various tech companies and his luck.

Why  Evan hanged his boots?

In his interview to TNW Evan told the decision is taken because of money and disease.
Evan Blass said
"These matters are always somewhat complicated, but like many things, it mostly comes down to money. Trying to monetize a stream of Twitter leaks is not easy. First I tried monthly sponsorships. Then weekly. Then single sponsored tweets. I took donations — felt like online panhandling.
I also started a website, and it’s actually done somewhat respectably, but with all the leaks going out on Twitter anyway, people have little incentive to visit, and most of my tech-savvy-heavy audience seem to be pretty heavy ad-block users, as well. It all adds up to an unsustainable living, and with a progressively worsening disease, I need to make sure I can prepare myself better for the future, financially"
In his interview to TNW he told his favorite leak was HTC M8 prime and proudest moment was being named one of Wired's 101 Signals last year.

Who Next?

On being asked about whom he think could fit in his shoes after him, Evan named TK O'Corner of TK TechNews . Interestingly TK Tech News has started online campaign to raise medical funds for Evan.

We thank Evan for giving us insights of devices ahead of their release and wish him all the best for his future. He has left a void in tech world which is hard to fill, lets  hope TK carry forward the legacy now.
