Android's next version will be called KitKat not 'KeyLimePie'

Till date Google has been referring to its next version after JellyBean as 'KeyLimePie' but now its official that for 'K' series the next version will be named as 'KitKat'. As all android versions are named after a desert and in alphabetical order, for some time Google coined the name 'KeyLimePie' for next version after JellyBean but not so popular desert name is replaced by famous chocolate 'Kitkat' from Nestle.

A post on android's official Google+ page +Android says "KitKat has been a favorite candy on the team for some time, so for the K release, we asked if they’d be willing to lend their iconic candy bar to its name. Be on the lookout for limited edition Android KitKat bars coming soon to a candy aisle near you. For a lucky few, your KitKat bar might contain a winning ticket for a new Nexus 7 tablet or Google Play credits. Check it out"

Android official website Android.com is updated with new name. And the title says "Android Kitkat, Prepare for a new sweet treat"

"Android is the operating system that powers over 1 billion smartphones and tablets. Since these devices make our lives so sweet, each Android version is named after a dessert: Cupcake, Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich, and Jelly Bean. As everybody finds it difficult to stay away from chocolate we decided to name the next version of Android after one of our favorite chocolate treats, Kitkat®!"

Android is the most popular operating system for smart phones running on more than 1 billion smartphones. Android has changed the equations in mobile phones market since its birth. While major brands benefited from opensource OS are Samsung, Sony, HTC local brands such as Micromax, Karbonn, Lava, Intex etc are also getting noticed by providing Android smartphones at reasonable prices. Though there are many competitors existing and emerging for Android but as of now none of them pose a serious challenge to its popularity.

Let's see what enhancements are made in the OS once it is released.
