Other side of Innovation: Companies losing market share.

Innovation, ideas, development all these words brings joy, excitement, curiosity and imagination for what would be next. While this is obvious that technology and innovation has always helped us grow faster in this century, but for some it brings loss, losing market share and even brings some top brands to floor.

Digital cameras to Kodak: We all know Kodak was most successful brand in photography domain for nearly a century. No brand marketed cameras as good as this organisation in that era, but it was innovation of digital photography where other brands emerged as big players, while Kodak was hesitant to adopt this as its photo roll market was at stake. Rest we all know how Sony, Cannon , Nikon and other brands took over that market space gradually.

VOIP phones to IT Service sector : This sounds quite unusual but yes that's true. When VOIP was not in use IT service companies had more chance to get onsite projects with more onsite ratio as compared to offshore which was a much profitable scenario for Servicing companies like Infosys, TCS etc. While after VOIP coming into picture you just need one or two coordinator as it offers international calls at negligible rates. However, it took time to create significant effect on business but it had.

Multimedia phones to Walkman: There was an era when we had a magnetic tape cassete record , a walkman in our pockets and earphones in ears and we felt on top of this world , and so did Sony. But when multimedia mobile phones came into picture no one wanted to use bulky walk man low cost Nokia was major player to provide affordable multimedia mobiles to people and acheived huge success.

Google to Apple: It would be unfair not to discuss about these two big fat tech giants. While Apple is most admired innovation company which changed the way how world uses mobiles with its flagship innovation iPhones, it is Google's Android OS which has threaten the monopoly of Apple in world of smart phones.

Samsung to Nokia: 4 years ago when good mobile meant Nokia mobiles only hardly anyone would have thought one day Nokia would struggle to sell its handset and at the same time Samsung would become a pioneer in mobile markets but when Samsung entered into smartphone market it was well prepared and it pioneered in Android smart phones.

While there are lot more like mobiles swept away watches from our wrists, internet has swiped out daily newspaper (paper wala).

  2. Innovation is a powerful tool. Innovation can be used to propel an industry forward, moving it from the old and traditional into something new and unknown best writing services. But innovation also has its downsides. Some companies will lose market share as they are unable to compete with the innovative company in their respective industries.
