Google want you to get rid of online passwords

Last time we talked about Google dominating cyber space with another service called Zavers. Now Google seems to replace your passwords with a ring or USB device. Passwords can be considered a weak link in today’s scenario for your personal as well as professional online security, as there always remains threat from hackers to get such sensitive details.

Next month's edition of the journal IEEE Security & Privacy Magazine will carry a report by Google's VP of security Eric Grosse and engineer Mayank Upadhyay that outline their vision for a world without passwords.

Google Vice President of Security Eric Grosse and Engineer Mayank Upadhyay say within the paper:
“Along with many in the industry, we feel passwords and simple bearer tokens such as cookies are no longer sufficient to keep users safe. It’s time to give up on elaborate password rules and look for something better.”

In future may be a ring or USB device or some other sort of device would be used to login to your online accounts. Smart phones can also be considered for this kind of integration.

While the move is to make it difficult to breach in your security, but we already have such phenomenon in use as biometric authentication which is not much popular even today. It would be interesting to see How Google manages to convince rest of the internet world to adapt this methodology and how people receive it.

Another big question is how would this method manage when someone lost their device bearing their credentials. I hope Google will not leave any such questions unanswered when it actually bring this in market.

    3. I agree with you, this can be a concept of extending public , private key scenario.
But this may attract corporate users , I have seen corporates using devices which generates key at given point of time and using your password + that key enables you to login.

Still normal junta will move to other free services as you said.
