After Canonical with Ubuntu for mobile its now Mozilla's turn

Earlier it was only Apple's iOS known for smart phones, later Android came in to break the monopoly of iOS. Recently, Canonical's also displayed their mobile Ubuntu OS working on smart phones. Samsung's Tizen and Jolla's Sailfish are also prepared to compete. Nothing to surprise Mozilla has also entered into Mobile OS race.

Mozilla known for their open source Firefox web browser has also entered into race of Smart phone Operating system by revealing two phones - The Keon and The Peak in partnership with Geeksphone. These phones runs on Firefox OS, Firefox OS is open source as Android. Mozilla believes their OS will be a real open source with no dependency/control for vendors where developers can distribute their apps from Mozilla Market place , their own website or any other Mozilla open source app store.

Before hitting the stores , Mozilla wants its app store to be rich with applications. In this effort , preview devices are sent to developers to develop applications for the upcoming OS platform.

Pricing is not yet revealed, the phones should be available in stores by late this year. Key is to provide similar features to customers at a very low price.

Really excited to see different flavours of Mobile Operating Systems. I hope one day we will have mobiles where we can upgrade hardware as we do with our desktops and choose Operating system of our choice.
