The Ringing bells has been the centre of attraction from last few days because of its latest smartphone which will be unveiled today in a launch event in Delhi. The Freedom 251 will get the bell ringing in your pocket for only Rs 251. The device will be launched by Defence Minister Mr. Manohar Parrikar that is first indication of government support/involvement behind the device.
Today its going to be Deja Vu moment for Indian consumers as The Ringing Bell pvt limited is going to repeat what Reliance's Dheeru Bhai Ambani did almost a decade ago. While Mr. Ambani launched a feature phone for Rs 500 in that era (which was really a revolutionary step in mobile penetration in India), today Freedom 251 will be launched for less than 500 INR. Going by the media invite shared by the company, it has received immense support from Government Programs like Make in India, Digital India and Skill India in line with Hon'ble Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi's vision for empowering India to last person transforming India's growth story. As per the invite the most affordable will be priced under Rs 500 and final price announcement would be done by Mr. Parriakar, however reports suggest that the device will be available for Rs 251 only. This seems to be taken from the nomenclature the phone follows as the smartphone is named as Freedom 251.
While the device has benefited from Make in India, Digital India and Skill India programs but still the price tag of Rs 251 is a milestone which looks very far even with all that support. Speculations are that the Government of India has subsidized the phone as the device comes pre bundled with GOI applications which includes Women Safety, Swachh Bharat, Fisherman, Farmer, Medical etc.
Though it comes at a very marginal price the device still impresses us with the specifications. Freedom 251 runs on Android Lollipop 5.1 OS. Under the hood it is powered by 1.2 GHz Quad core processor coupled with 1 GB of RAM. It comes with 8 GB internal memory which can be further expanded upto 32 GB using micro SD card, The phone comes with 4 inch qHD IPS display and comes with most commonly used apps pre-bundled in it like WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter etc. And oh it does have camera on both sides a 3.2 MP camera for back and VGA camera in front, a 1450 mAh battery keeps the device alive.
All these specifications are really impressive if you look at the price tag and we are glad they didn't made a joke of the device in name of cheapest smartphone in the world. As one friend suggested during casual talk , if you want to buy a memory card order Freedom 251 you will get memory plus smartphone.
